We do love the range of Clarice Cliff bookends she designed and painted and in this feature we expand our information pages with a look at the Clarice Cliff Shape 405 bookends and some of the patterns that feature. We also include some realised prices at auction. They were made in the 1930s and have a tapered block form with stepped base, making them an excellent vehicle for patterns and design. They measure about 15.8cm / 6.25 inches high.
Many of the patterns on these bookends were very limited including the Sunray design below.
This example shows the bookends with one of Clarice Cliff’s most famous patterns.
Other patterns observed include Latona Red Roses, and include two Clarice Cliff’s rarest patterns May Avenue and Honolulu. (click to learn more about Clarice Cliff’s Most Expensive Pattern May Avenue)
