Disney Wade Lady and the Tramp Blow-Up Prototypes – Disney and Wade pottery enthusiasts had the chance to acquire some exceptionally rare pieces at a recent Potteries Auctions event, where five unmarked prototype ‘Blow Up’ colourway figures from the classic Lady and the Tramp series went under the hammer.
Trusty – Sold for £190
These large-scale figures, affectionately known as ‘Blow Ups’ among collectors, were produced by Wade in the 1960s, following the success of their Disney Hat Box Series. While the Hat Box Series featured charming small-scale figures in individual decorative boxes, the Blow Ups were a bold departure — larger, more detailed, and designed to make a statement in any collection.

The auction featured five of the eight characters Wade originally created for their Lady and the Tramp Blow-Up collection. Each piece represented a unique unmarked colourway prototype, giving collectors the chance to own something rarely seen on the open market.
The final hammer prices highlighted the enduring appeal of both Disneyana and Wade pottery collectibles:

A Look Back at Wade Disney Blow Ups
Wade originally produced a set of 10 larger Disney characters, including eight from Lady and the Tramp, plus Dopey and Bambi. Each figure stood approximately five to six inches tall, making them significantly larger than the smaller Hat Box figures.
The Lady and the Tramp range included:
- Lady
- Tramp
- Scamp
- Jock
- Trusty
- Si and Am (the mischievous Siamese cats)
- Dachie (a dachshund character created for the set)
These larger figures were created with more expressive detailing and vibrant glazes, with some colourways never entering full production. Prototypes and rare variations, such as the ones sold at Potteries Auctions, are especially prized among Wade and Disney collectors alike.
