A large orange stamp that cost £5 in 1882 used for posting heavy parcels to the furthest reaches of the British Empire set a new world record price for such a stamp at Bonhams in Knightsbridge on December 19 when it sold for £15,270.

Sally Tuffin’s Butterfy Tree Steals Show at Bonhams
Dennis Chinaworks’ sale at Bonhams on 6th December 2006, was once again a renowned success, proving that Sally Tuffin’s designs are constantly growing in popularity with collectors. Frenzied bidding ensured that each lot sold for far more than expected, but as predicted, it was the stunning, intricate “Butterfly Tree” that stole the show, selling for a staggering hammer price of £11,000.

Audrey Hepburn’s iconic black dress designed by Hubert de Givenchy from the much-loved 1961 classic film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, more than exceeded pre-sale expectations, selling for £467,200/$923,187/€692,390 at Christie’s South Kensington in the Film and Entertainment Sale on 5 December 2006.

In 2005 Dennis Chinawork’s ‘ March of the Penguins’ made a staggering hammer price of £13,100 at Bonham’s Design Sale in London. This world-record price was an astonishing achievement for a contemporary British potter, and so, it is hoped, that once again the talents and exquisite workmanship of Sally Tuffin and her team will be reflected in the prices achieved at this year’s Bonham’s sale to be held on 6th Decembe.

On December 5 Bonhams will hold a special Doulton auction that will include such masterpieces as the Pastoral Vase by Beresford-Hopkins and the Doulton Albert Medal Vase. There will also be some stunning Chang wares as well as rare figurines from the HN series and rare character jugs such as the Maori (expected to make £10,000-15,000) There will be some rare early bunnykins including the 1939 rabbit teapot and lid. Coalport Snowmen at Stacey’s Collectables Auction
Within the first sale there are a number of Coalport Snowmen including some rare tableau pieces including sought after “Hold on Tight”, “By the Fireside” “It’s a Knockout” and “Walking in the Air”. There are also many others figurines including “The Welcome”, “Just Like Me” and “I’ll Never Forget You.” There is also an advent calendar, bookend and glitter globe, along with a whole host of limited edition and general release pieces.
Bonham’s Design 1860-1945 Star Line Up
Bonham’s
Design sale on November 15th will include a wide array of
collectable items from the Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau
and Art Deco periods (1860-1945). There are an amazing array
of pottery figural studies by the Chelsea potter Charles
Vyse including rarities like Punch and Judy, The Circus
and Club Row as well as fifteen or so other studies. Lalique
collectors will find both important vases such as `Oranges’
`Sauterelles’ and `Poissons’ along with bowls, hanging lights,
perfume bottles and figural studies. Most pieces are from
the R.Lalique (pre-1945) period.
