On December 5 Bonhams will hold a special Doulton auction that will include such masterpieces as the Pastoral Vase by Beresford-Hopkins and the Doulton Albert Medal Vase. There will also be some stunning Chang wares as well as rare figurines from the HN series and rare character jugs such as the Maori (expected to make £10,000-15,000) There will be some rare early bunnykins including the 1939 rabbit teapot and lid. Hannah Barlow and George Tinworth will also feature in the stoneware section.

On December 6 Bonhams will hold a sale of Clarice Cliff, Moorcroft and Sally Tuffin items. This will include a range of pieces in collectable shapes and patterns. Sally Tuffin will again design seventeen or so special on-off pots especially for this sale.

Maori

‘Maori’ An Extremely Rare Large Doulton Character Jug

1939, modelled as a native inhabitant of New Zealand and the Polynesian Islands D6080 £10,000-15,000

There are only three of this model known to have been produced. The model was put into production at Nile Street at the outbreak of World War Two, but probably only a handful reached retail outlets before production was halted. The last one sold at 101 New Bond Street salerooms in May 1998 for a hammer price of £19,000.
