Montblanc Writers Edition – Oscar Wilde (1994)

Please share on your social media

The 1994 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Oscar Wilde. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

Oscar Wilde (1854–1900) was an Irish playwright, novelist and leading figure of the aesthetic movement. His works include The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest.

Pen design and identification

The 1994 pen has a rich marbled resin body with green and brown tones, complemented by gold-plated fittings. The patterned surface gives each example a distinctive decorative appearance associated with Wilde’s love of beauty and ornament.

Look for the author’s signature and check that the resin and cap finish are consistent with the edition.

Versions and collecting notes

Photographs can make the marbling appear different under varied lighting. When comparing examples, inspect close-ups of the barrel, cap and fittings.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
