Montblanc Writers Edition – William Shakespeare (2016)

Please share on your social media

The 2016 Montblanc Writers Edition honours William Shakespeare. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

William Shakespeare (1564–1616) was the English playwright and poet whose works include Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and numerous sonnets. The 2016 edition marked 400 years since his death.

Pen design and identification

The pen has a distinctive black-and-white design with decorative bands and details recalling Elizabethan theatrical dress and the architecture of Shakespeare’s Globe.

Its contrasting bands and theatrical references are useful identifiers.

Versions and collecting notes

Look for wear at the junctions of differently coloured sections and compare the exact model and packaging with other 2016 listings.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
