Montblanc Writers Edition – Fyodor Dostoevsky (1997)

Please share on your social media

The 1997 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Fyodor Dostoevsky. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821–1881) was a Russian novelist whose works include Crime and Punishment, The Idiot and The Brothers Karamazov.

Pen design and identification

The 1997 pen uses dark blue resin and decorative gold-plated fittings, with ornament influenced by nineteenth-century Russian design. Detailed cap bands and contrasting finishes make it more ornate than some earlier editions.

The cap decoration, resin colour and engraved author signature are useful identification points.

Versions and collecting notes

Check for wear to the decorated fittings and distinguish original surface texture from scratches or later damage.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
