Montblanc Writers Edition – Edgar Allan Poe (1998)

Please share on your social media

The 1998 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Edgar Allan Poe. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849) was an American poet and writer of Gothic and detective fiction. The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Murders in the Rue Morgue remain closely associated with his name.

Pen design and identification

The pen has a deep midnight-blue resin finish with gold-plated trim, creating a suitably atmospheric appearance. The fountain pen’s nib carries a raven motif referring directly to Poe’s famous poem.

The nib decoration is particularly helpful when examining fountain-pen photographs.

Versions and collecting notes

When buying a fountain pen, check that the nib is correct for the edition and has not been substituted during servicing.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
