The Troika Decorations of Simone Kilburn – As the majority of the Troika pieces were made from moulds made by Lesley Illsley from the shapes made by Benny Sirota, it was up to the decorators to create the Troika look. The decorators were not afraid to experiment with unconventional production ideas, methods and materials including emulsion paint and melted broken glass. We take a look at some of the Wheel vases decorated by Simone Kilburn that have come to auction along with their auction prices.

These Wheel vases show great variation in decoration.

Simone Kilburn began work at Troika in Newlyn in 1975 joining straight from school. She was a talented at art and although she only remained at the pottery for two years she has become popular among collectors. The decorators added their initials to the base of most pieces. Simone had the monogram SK.

The decorations show great variation from differing colours to the use of geometric shapes and even objects such as with the telephone. Even with the variation in decoration the Troika style is instantly recognisable.
