The 2014 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Daniel Defoe. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.
About the author
Daniel Defoe (c.1660–1731) was the English writer best known for Robinson Crusoe, first published in 1719.
Pen design and identification
The 2014 pen has a dark brown, wood-like finish with contrasting metal details, drawing on the natural materials and improvised tools associated with Crusoe’s island life.
The textured, timber-like appearance is a defining visual characteristic.
Versions and collecting notes
Confirm whether marks are part of the intended surface texture or later wear; clear photographs of the barrel are essential.
Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
