Montblanc Writers Edition – Victor Hugo (2020)

Please share on your social media

The 2020 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Victor Hugo. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

Victor Hugo (1802–1885) was a French novelist, poet and dramatist whose best-known works include Les Misérables and Notre-Dame de Paris.

Pen design and identification

The 2020 edition draws on Gothic architecture, with a dark body and cap and fittings influenced by the carved stonework of Notre-Dame Cathedral. The architectural theme provides a direct link to Hugo’s fiction.

Look for Gothic-inspired details and the particular shape of the cap and metalwork.

Versions and collecting notes

Inspect raised ornament and edges for wear, and confirm whether a listing is for the standard edition or a more exclusive variant.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
