Montblanc Writers Edition – Jonathan Swift (2012)

Please share on your social media

The 2012 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Jonathan Swift. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

Jonathan Swift (1667–1745) was an Anglo-Irish satirist and author of Gulliver’s Travels, published in 1726.

Pen design and identification

The 2012 edition draws directly on Gulliver’s adventures, with sculptural details evoking the ropes used by the inhabitants of Lilliput to restrain the giant traveller. The unusual decorative treatment sets it apart from conventional pen designs.

The rope-like features are the easiest way to recognise the edition.

Versions and collecting notes

Inspect raised decoration carefully for knocks and wear, and verify whether a listing includes its original presentation case.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
