The 1995 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Voltaire. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

Voltaire (1694–1778) was a French Enlightenment writer, philosopher and satirist, remembered especially for Candide and his criticism of intolerance.

Pen design and identification

The design combines black precious resin with gold-plated trim and an elaborately decorated cap, evoking the elegance of eighteenth-century French decorative arts. Its classical appearance contrasts with the colourful resin used for several earlier Writers Editions.

The fountain pen features an 18-carat gold nib, while the cap carries identifying author details.

Versions and collecting notes

Pay attention to the cap decoration and plating, where wear may be more apparent than on the black resin. Verify the exact writing-instrument type.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
