The 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown Price Guide

We get many emails each week asking for valuations. We try to turn some into features in our Antiques & Collectables Price Guide and a recurring question is the value of the 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown. These were minted for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 and over 37 million were made (37,061,160 to be exact) so they are still quite common. The loose versions have no real value apart from their nominal value of 25p.

When released they were available loose, in small wallets and in cases from the various banks.

The 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown is not actually silver and the Silver reference relates of the 25th Anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne. There is a slight confusion in that a number of actual silver 1977 Jubilee crowns were made. Most of the real examples would have come in boxes and are probably still in those boxes. The only way to tell the real silver examples is to test the silver, but easier is the thickness of the coin: the standard is 3.2mm thick, while the silver proof coin is 2.89mm thick.

As we some of the 50ps that have been released we often see prices of hundreds of pounds on ebay. We assume that these are all fake prices.
