Christie’s summer Teddy Bears sale on Tuesday 17 July at Christie’s South Kensington will feature a whole menagerie of cuddly animals including cats, dogs, rabbits as well as bears and other furry things. Comprising 120 lots, the sale is expected to realise £100,000 and the view is free and open to the general public from Saturday 14 July. Estimates start from £150 providing the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to a new furry friend or buy a unique gift for a loved-one that will really hold its value.
Highlights this summer include:
• A pair of fine center-seam Steiff honey coloured teddy bears, circa 1906 (estimate:
£4,000-6,000 each)
• A rare part set of Steiff cat skittles, early 1900s (estimate: £3,000-4,000)
• A velvet Steiff cat with very rare elephant button (estimate: £1,000-1,500)
• Fourtoutou, a rare Hermés dog hand-bag (estimates: £300-500)
• A rare Chad Valley Bonzo the dog with original swing label (estimate: £800-1,200)
• A rare Steiff Dicky bear, circa 1930 (estimate: £6,000-8,000) This bear was given as an
engagement present in 1930 and he has been treasured ever since, hence his remarkable
condition
• An unusual ISA Animated Toy teddy bear with extra long sprung legs, wearing black
mohair boots, First World War (estimate: £1,000-1,500)
