A rare and unusual Geoffrey Baxter textured vase was sold at Special Auction Services, Newbury, Berkshire in October 2018 for £1,300.

The vase was described as a Geoffrey Baxter for Whitefriars, a Textured glass range ‘Mobile Phone’ slab vase in Willow 27cm. The piece resembles the Nuts and Bolt vase with 12 dimples.

The notes for the lot included

Diagramatically referenced in copies of Geoffrey Baxter’s personal working notes. Ref -’20th Century British Glass’ (Hajdamach) p312, and ‘Whitefriars Glass – James  Powell & Sons of London’ (Evans/Ross/Werner) p334, the design drawing for this piece sits between the 9668 ‘Nuts ‘n’ Bolts’ and the smaller 9669 ‘Bamboo’, but has been crossed through, and bears no numeric reference. As the design in this larger size was not developed into a production run, there is a possibility that this could be an original trial piece, making it potentially a very unique item.
