Bonhams
Sale of Wine, Port & Spirits at New Bond Street on 30 November
2004 achieved strong prices, particularly for mature claret
dating before and from 1990. The top lot, however, was a jeroboam
(4.5 litres, the equivalent of 6 standard bottles) of Romanée
Conti 1966, which sold to a French buyer for £10,900 against
an estimate of £6,000 – 8,000.

Wines from the cellar of the late David Sandeman were much
sought after, with 6 bottles of 1945 vintage Port making £1,925
and a magnum of the 1935 vintage, £462. Fonseca 1948 from
another private cellar fetched £3,080 for 6 bottles (estimate
£1900-2400).
A small section of old Whiskies towards the sales conclusion
fetched some excellent prices, particularly for three rare Macallan
single malts. 1938 and 1950 both far exceeding their top estimates
at £836 and £572 respectively, while a 25 Year Old
bottled in 1958 fetched £308.
