Pablo Picasso’s Les Femmes D’Alger broke the record for a piece of art when it sold at Christies on 11th May at New York’s Rockefeller Centre for an amazing $179,365,000.
Pictured: Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), Les femmes d’Alger (Version ‘O’), signed ‘Picasso’ (upper right); dated ‘14.2.55.’ (on the reverse), oil on canvas, 44 7/8 x 57 5/8 in. (114 x 146.4 cm.), Painted on 14 February 1955.
The previous record was for Three studies of Lucian Freud by Francis Bacon which sold for $145.0m, again at Christies, New York.
