The 2024 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Jane Austen. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

Jane Austen (1775–1817) was the English novelist of Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Emma. Her fiction is closely associated with the manners and social life of Regency England.

Pen design and identification

The 2024 edition has a sandstone-grey resin barrel and decorative fittings inspired by Regency fashion. The clip is designed to recall the fastening of a reticule, the small drawstring handbag fashionable during Austen’s lifetime.

The reticule-inspired clip is the most distinctive identifying feature.

Versions and collecting notes

Check that the clip and its decorative elements are complete and note whether the example is a fountain pen, rollerball or ballpoint.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers.
