Montblanc Writers Edition – Marcel Proust (1999)

Please share on your social media

The 1999 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Marcel Proust. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

Marcel Proust (1871–1922) was the French novelist best known for the monumental In Search of Lost Time, a defining work of literary modernism.

Pen design and identification

The Proust stands apart from many resin-based editions through its sterling silver construction and intricate geometric guilloché decoration. The engraved surface catches light and gives the pen a refined, early twentieth-century character.

Look closely at the repeating silver pattern, hallmarks or other metal markings, and the condition of the cap and barrel.

Versions and collecting notes

Silver can develop tarnish; this is not necessarily damage. Distinguish normal patina from deep scratches, dents and aggressive polishing.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
