Merrythought teddy bears on parade in Ironbridge. A scene more synonymous with Horse Guards Parade could be witnessed today at the famous Merrythought factory in Ironbridge, Shropshire, as 12 giant Guardsman teddy bears prepare to set sail across the Atlantic for an unusual shipment to one of the company’s US customers.
These newly commissioned teddy bears have been handmade by the skilled staff in Merrythought’s traditional factory, which is the last of its kind in Britain. The bears are 5’6’’ tall and are made from the finest mohair. Merrythought is a family business that has been making the finest mohair teddy bears in the same factory since 1930.
The company’s quintessentially British teddy bears are collected all over the world and, amongst other places, are sold in Harrods, Hamleys, Fortnum & Mason as well as Highgrove and the Royal Collection shop at Buckingham Palace.
