Royal Copenhagen have launched two new bowls with the iconic Fluted Mega decoration – in blue and black.
The decorative Blue Fluted pattern is just as topical today as when it first saw the light of day in 1775. The Fluted Mega series from 2000 demonstrated this with an innovative interpretation of the well-known pattern, quickly becoming a modern classic. Practical serving bowls are now being launched in two sizes in this popular range.
Elegant and functional
The bowls, which hold 1.1 litres and 1.8 litres, are perfect for summer salads and autumn fruit as well as all kinds of accompaniments such as root vegetables, peas and beans. In addition to their decorative qualities, the bowls are very practical as they are stackable and therefore occupy less cupboard space. The two bowls also, of course, fit inside the large Fluted Mega salad bowl.
The Fluted Mega dinner service is an exciting renewal of a Danish classic, and a refreshing take on the hand-painted tradition. In 2000, the designer Karen Kjældgård-Larsen gave the well-known pattern a brand new look by enlarging selected details of the decoration and, like the classic Blue Fluted porcelain, the series became an immediate success.
Modern art history
Blue Fluted porcelain is a piece of hand-painted cultural history that can be found in many homes in Denmark and abroad. The pattern has been in continuous production since 1775 when Den Kongelige Porcelainsfabrik – Royal Copenhagen – was founded, and from the outset it has been the most popular dinner service in the company’s range. The same is true today, with the series still being recognised worldwide as the epitome of Danish porcelain design. Then as now, every piece of Blue Fluted porcelain is painted by hand, because this is the only way of ensuring that the pattern retains its vitality and distinctive appeal.
