to realize in the region of $4 million, this black chalk drawing
has appeared on the open market only once before. Formerly part
of the famous collection formed by John Malcolm of Poltalloch
(1805-93), it was one of a group of important drawings given by
him to his son-in-law .

Smoking Cigars In First Ever Hockney Auction
The
first auction ever to be entirely devoted to the works of David
Hockney features a highly topical photo-collage from the pro-smoking
artist. ‘Billy Wilder lighting his cigar,’ made in 1982, is set
to fetch up to £6,000 in Bonhams’ sale of David Hockney
Prints & Multiples on 31 October, which is collectively expected
to generate around half a million pounds.
World Record Price for Graham Greene Photograph Fetched at Auction
A world
record price was achieved at a Bonhams auction on 3 October
2005 when a signed photograph of the novelist Graham Greene
(1904 – 1991) fetched an astonishing £20,400 – some
ten times its lower estimate of £2,000. It is the
most expensive signed photograph of Greene ever sold at
auction.

Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art
Following the tremendous spring Asia Week in March 2005,

the three highest auction prices for Asian art that week,
including a previously undiscovered 14th Century copper-red
bottle which brought $2 million, the September sales of
Chinese and Asian art will feature a number of treasures,
including a monumental pair of late Ming dynasty lacquer
cabinets with reignmarks of the Wanli emperor (1573-1619).

George Stubbs at Bonhams
THE
ENGRAVED WORK OF GEORGE STUBBS (1724-1806), one of England’s greatest
painters, is the subject of a major exhibition curated by The
British Sporting Art Trust and hosted by Bonhams, London W1 from
Monday 25 July to Friday 12 August 2005, complementing the concurrent
exhibition of Stubbs and the Horse at Londons National Gallery.
