Montblanc Writers Edition – Honoré de Balzac (2013)

Please share on your social media

The 2013 Montblanc Writers Edition honours Honoré de Balzac. The design is part of Montblanc’s annual tribute to important literary figures and gives collectors a recognisable writing instrument associated with the author.

About the author

Honoré de Balzac (1799–1850) was a French novelist whose interconnected stories and novels form La Comédie humaine, a sweeping portrait of French society.

Pen design and identification

The 2013 edition uses a dark body, contrasting metalwork and a substantial cap. Its styling draws on the fashion and social world of nineteenth-century France.

Look for the distinctive cap form and decorative metal sections when identifying an example.

Versions and collecting notes

Check the finish on the larger cap surfaces, where dents or scratches may be especially visible.

Before purchasing, check the writing mechanism, condition of the resin or metalwork, nib where applicable, and the presence of the original presentation box and papers. Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball prices should be compared separately; avoid assuming every version was produced in the same quantity.
