Bonhams Native American Art auction on the 31st August includes several historic artifacts from the Pacific Northwest Coast, dating from the early to mid-19th century, some of which are coming to market for the first time.

The lots include an exceptional Tlingit Rattle carved in the form of an oystercatcher a classic of Northwest Coast imagery and bearing the provenance of several major collections over the years (estimate: $150,000-200,000); an impressive carved wood staff, a symbol of power or prestige, coming from a private European collection, having been found in a Stockholm antique shop in 1970, (estimate: $40,000-60,000); a rattle in the form of a human face (estimate: $40,000-60,000), hailing from an English collection, having been in the family for several generations.

The auction includes an impressive collection of 35 lots of silver and turquoise jewelry from the Collection of Charles and Sharon Aberle, assembled over the course of 50 years and showcasing a fine assortment of historic Navajo, Zuni and Pueblo bracelets, necklaces and other adornments.
