Vectis - Not One But Two World Records in One Day

Vectis Auctions, The World’s Largest Toy Auctioneer are no strangers to achieving World Record Prices for collectable toys entered into their specialist auctions. In the last five years there have been no less than eight ranging from £12,000 paid for a Post-war Dinky No.505 Foden Flat Truck to £1,265 paid for an empty cardboard box that once contained a Cetandco ‘Charterhouse Sand Bag Encampment’.

In their sale on Monday 10th March there was not one world record but two.

The private owner sale ‘The 5th Avenue Collection’ consisted of 52 Pre and Post War Dinky Toys together with Matchbox, Corgi and Britains many of which were very rare models.

Lot 50 Dinky Pre-war No.28/1 Trade Box for 6 Type 1 Delivery Vans containing 6 Vans all with Dinky Toys cast to underside of cab roof, including No.28a ‘Hornby Trains’, No.28c ‘Pickfords’, No.28c ‘Manchester Guardian’, No.28d ‘Oxo’, No.28e ‘Ensign Cameras’ and No. 28f ‘Palethorpes’. All contained within yellow Trade Box with original internal dividers. Only the second example of this complete Trade Box in original condition that we know has been offered to the market in recent decades. A quite superb set. VERY VERY RARE. W E Boyce Hornby Lot 52 Dinky Pre-war No.22D Delivery Van “W.E. Boyce” Type 1 with “Hornby Series” embossed to underside of cab. A VERY VERY RARE Promotional Van, the only one we know in existence. (WE Boyce was a Cycle Shop on the Archway Road in the 1930s and was apparently still trading under that name into the early 60’s).
