
Two works by Dorothea Sharp ROI RBA (1874 – 17 December 1955) highlight Bonhams British & European Art Auction on the 24th November. Dorothea Sharp was born in Dartford, Kent, and began her training aged 21, and after studying at the Regent Street Polytechnic, she went on to Paris where her work was influenced by the Impressionists and in particular Claude Monet. This influence can be seen reflected in her works.
The two works at auction are Fishing off the jetty (oil on board) with an estimate of £10,000-£15,000 and The toy boat (oil on board) with an estimate of £8,000-£12,000. Other works at the sale include View of Le Havre by Edmond Petitjean (1844-1925) with an estimate of £6,000-£8,000 and Rembrandt’s father’s mill by Edward William Cooke, RA (British, 1811-1880) with an estimate of £7,000-£10,000.
