ATTENTION ALL WIZARD OF OZ COLLECTORS: Welcome! You are looking at my copy of The Scarecrow of Oz, contains 288 pages, copyright July 16th, 1915, Illustrated by John R. Neill and published by The Reilly & Lee Company, Chicago. It is autographed by Roger S. Baum, great-grandson of L. Frank Baum, the original creator of The Wizard of Oz series. (Roger S. Baum is the author of many continuing Wizard of Oz books) This book is double autographed. Roger Baum put a post-it note in the book indicating it needed to be replaced and it's a first Edition. This story is the personal favorite of L. Frank Baum. The Scarecrow of Oz is the 9th book in the 14 book series. It is set in the Land of Oz. It is the story of Captain Bill and Trot and their voyage to Oz. They are joined by Button-Bright, a little boy from Philadelphia whose predictable trait is to get lost. In Jinxland they engage in a dangerous and deadly encounter with a powerful witch who is aiding the king in his cruel plan to marry his daughter to someone she does not love. The daughter (Princess Gloria) is really in love with the gardener's boy, Pon. Learning of the desperate situation in Jinxland, Glinda the Good Witch sends the Scarecrow on a rescue mission. But the Scarecrow is no match for the powerful witch and finds himself in his ultimate nightmare, being burned at the stake. Who will save the Scarecrow? Does Pon marry Gloria? What happens to the cruel king and evil witch? And, Will Button-Bright make it home to Philadelphia? These are surprises best left for you to discover. You are sure to enjoy this magical tale of adventure and love in the Land of Oz. This is a magnificent treasure and in good condition for being 93 years old. The cover is hardbound with fabric cover. Time has faded the cover and some of the spine. The title, publishing company and Ozma’s face are still visible on the spine. Some of the reddish/orange fabric cover has unthreaded at the top/bottom of cover and spine. The pages are unique, printed from sturdy old fashion paper. Pages and illustrations are in black and white. The pages are clear with some wear. The book is in sturdy condition. It has been treated with care and loving hands since I purchased it. I have vacuum sealed it (but opened it for this auction) and kept it in a smoke free environment for fifteen years. (I will re-seal it when the auction ends) Don’t let this amazing book pass you up. This is a must have for any Wizard of Oz collector. This book is listed for $5000.00 or best offer. The price is based on a offer made for it over five years ago, but I missed my opportunity. I will ship this book to the new owner once payment is received, no personal checks! Money order, cash or cashier’s check is acceptable payment. You won’t be disappointed. Please feel free to ask any questions and pictures of the book will be e-mailed by request.
