: : My mother has a thimble in her old sewing box that has a two section slider up the side.  The first section slides up (I don't know why) and then the second section can be slid up to reveal a needle threader.  On the thimble it says made in usa and M.T.PAT'D. 10.  Any information on this thimble would be appreciated, or directions on where to search for furthur information. Thank you.

: The thimble you are referring to is brass and is known as a thread cutter.  The first section that slides up is to be used to cut thread and the other, of course, to thread your needle.  Your thimble is from about the 1930s - 1940s. Hope this helps.
