I have had a look through my 1978 annual and there is a story of Rupert & The Squire,wher Beppo the monkey hides things on top of a hut and Rupert has to climb a tree at the side of the hut. He finds stolen things up there and it mentions and shows a red cricket ball. And the hut is a secret hideout for theives, but no ballons mentioned. Sorry.
