The latest Vectis Tinplate and Plastic sale held on Friday 9 December at Thornaby was popular as ever, the sale attracted bids from around the world with a final total of £105,000, this being the best tinplate sale to date!

‘The Old Christmas Toy Shop’ theme reflected the varied amount of quality toys that would have been seen in toy shops around the world in their day – totalling nearly 800 lots.

Some of the highlights included a Meccano non-constructor clockwork tinplate 2-seater Sports Car which was in Excellent Plus condition in Good Plus card box with colourfully illustrated label and original instructions dated 1934! Selling for £980.

A Yonezawa (Japan) Jet Plane Base - comprises tinplate Control Building with Launching Pad – scarce item selling for £710.

Lot 705 a Lines Bros (Triang) 1920s wooden van ‘Hamley’s’ – a name synonymous with children’s toys from the famous London Toy Shop, sold for £1035.

One of the higher priced items was a Bing Battle Ship "HMS Terrible" - produced by this German manufacture between 1902 and 1907, modelled on a ship of the Imperial German Navy. This was a Fair example ‘right for restoration’ and was estimated at £1700 -£2200 – sold for £4600.

There were some bargains too, as Vectis always tries to cater for all tastes, many entry level buyers went away happy with their purchases.
