WineAn Important Private Cellar

On April 16th, Sotheby's is thrilled to offer 577 lots from An Important Private Cellar, featuring a flawless selection of the best of Bordeaux with a breathtaking collection of great Claret. The greatest Châteaux of the last century are all represented, with the emphasis on the First Growths, the Super Seconds, the top Pomerols and St. Emilions from the most desirable years. The collection also features impeccable Burgundy from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, among others, and Yquem. Italy also plays its part in this remarkable collection with a concentration of super-Tuscan wines, including twelve cases of Sassicaia, followed by 7 cases of Masseto and twenty-two cases of Ornellaia. The sale is expected to bring $1.1/1.5 million.

Serena Sutcliffe, MW, Head of the International Wine Department, says: "This is a dazzling cellar, totally impressive in its quality and depth. It is a classically constructed collection, a reflection of the taste and connoisseurship of the owner. This is a person who clearly likes the best and then took great pains to acquire and build up a wine collection to their meticulous standards. It goes without saying that the sourcing was perfect, always a vital part of the creation of a great cellar. This is a very important cellar full of great drinking."

Bordeaux was the primary passion in this Important Private Cellar, which holds landmark wines with worldwide appeal and gold-standard monuments that have stood the test of time. The span of vintages encompasses mature wines with decades behind them to myths in the making, and highlighting the Bordeaux section are three cases of 1982 Château Pétrus (est. $18/30,000) and 1982 Lafleur (est. $9,500/14,000), and six cases of 1989 Haut Brion (est. $4,500/6,500) and 1982 Lafite (est. $4,500/6,500). Two vintages from Château Latour, including eight cases of 1982 (est. $4,500/5,750) and nine cases of 1990 (est. $4,250/5,500), will be featured, and other top wines include eleven cases of 1982 Cheval Blanc (est. $4,500/6,000), seven cases of 1982 Mouton Rothschild (est. $4,500/5,750), six cases of 1990 Margaux (est. $4,500/6,000), seven cases of 1982 Leoville Las Cases (est. $2,400/3,250) and twenty cases of 1982 Ausone (est. $2,400/3,500).
