Hazle Ceramics will be holding its 15th Anniversary Collectors Day on Sunday the 16th January.

The members only event will feature a talk by Hazle 'What's it all About?', a auction (item list below), the smashing of moulds and more!

ITINERARY

11am Coffee
Look around displays of ceramics 'ancient and modern' (some for sale, to order, just to look at and bid for later)
12 noon Talk by Hazle 'What's it All About'
1pm Light Lunch - soup, rolls, cakes etc.
Walk or drive to local historic Art Nouveau Church for guided tour or stay in a cosy workshop and paint a very small ceramic
3pm Bidding for selected ceramics/items, other sales & raffle
4pm Afternoon Tea and Smashing of Moulds

AUCTION

On January 16th 2005 we are proposing to offer for auction most or all of the following ceramics, subject to time constraints. Some will be offered for charity, made clear on the day. All the ceramics will be on show at the workshop on the 16th from 11am. The auction will begin at 2.30 approx.

1. TUDOR PUB Painted as the 'Cherry Tree'. Warm colours. Retired 199 . Signed Hazle Boyles, painter TJ. Original label. Not crazed. Condition Good.

2. HARDWARE Painted as IRONMONGER. Facia board green, shop front red- the only one painted like this. Complete with add-on hardware goods and Christmas Trees with gold detail. Signed 'Hazle', painter Hazle ('H'). General label. Not crazed. Good.

3. INDIAN RESTAURANT Painted as STAR OF INDIA, Colours Blue, Cherry, Mauve, gold hand painted lettering. Signed HB, no painters mark. No label. Not crazed. Generally good, but ceramic tends to lean backward when left to stand up.

4. HARVARD HOUSE Painted as HARVARD HOUSE in usual way. Retired 199 . Signed Hazle Boyles. Painter BJ.
No label. Not crazed. Good.

5. OLD BOOKSHOP, CAMBRIDGE. Painted as THE BAKERY. Original mould with left hand door as well as central double door. Colours Yellow, brown, white. Bread & cakes in windows. Signed Hazle Boyles. Painter ACE. No Label. Not crazed. Thick glaze, 2 small paint marks on front, otherwise good.

6. OLD BOOKSHOP, CAMBRIDGE. Painted as THE OLD BOOKSHOP. Original mould with left hand door as well as central double door. Colours Blue and brown. Signed Hazle Boyles. Original Label. Thick glaze otherwise good.

7. OLD BOOKSHOP, CAMBRIDGE. Painted as LAMP LIGHT, lighting shop. Second version of this mould with central double door only. Colours red brick, black shop front, gold lettering. Signed Hazle. Painter Christine McAlister. General label. Not crazed. Good.

8. J. SAINSBURY. 2ND OFF MASTER MOULD. Painted green shop front- hand painted. Signed Hazle. Painter Hazle. No label. Not crazed. Pinhole on front pavement otherwise good.

9. J. SAINSBURY. Prototype for the range, therefore brick and brown in colour. Name on facia board is a decal, windows hand painted. Signed Hazle. Painter Hazle. Original label. Not crazed. Good.

10. THE OLD BOOKSHOP painted as HENRY JONES OF MARLOW, lighting shop. Second version of this mould with central double door only. Black shop front with lamps and ceramics in window, gold lettering. 1998 on certificate. Signed Hazle. Painter Chris McAlister. Original label. Not crazed. Good.

11. THE SMALL SHOP painted as THE SEWING ROOM. Colours light blue , cream, window has sewing machine and cloth. Signed Hazle Boyles (therefore pre 1992) Painter Dot Cannell. No label. Not crazed. Good.

13. TUDOR TEA SHOP WITH ROSES. Warm colours, light pink walls. Signed Hazle Boyles. Painter Sandra Peach. Original label. Not crazed. Good.

14. OLD CURIOSITY SHOP painted as NANCY KELL Fashions. Painted brick wall, black and gold facia, windows hand painted with ladies country fashions. One or two others were painted similar to this, but with significant differences for the customer. Signed Hazle. Painters Hazle and Chris McAlister, not marked, 2002. General label. Not crazed. Good.

15. LIBERTY Painted as 'Fine Wines & Ales'. Black beams. Painted as sample in 1991. No signature or painters mark. No label. No crazing. Good condition but slightly milky blue glaze in crevices.

16. LIBERTY Painted with LIBERTY in blue above facia. Sketchy picture of golfers in window. Painted as sample 1991. No signature, no painters mark. No label. Not crazed. Good.

17. LIBERTY Painted as Florist. Black Beams. Painted as sample 1991. Signed Hazle Boyles. No painters mark . No label. Not crazed. Glaze a bit thick and thin. Pin hole on back.

18. THE OLD BOOKSHOP, CAMBRIDGE. Painted as PHILADELPHIA CAFÉ for Kraft Foods, America. Second version of this mould with central door only. Shades of blue with cheesecake and bagels in the windows. By line 'A little taste of Heaven' Est. 1985. Signed Hazle. Painter Hazle, 1997. No label. Not crazed. Good.

19. 'NO AWNING' Painted as 'CHURNY' Specialty Cheese shop for Kraft Foods, America. (The original 'round awning' building ie Greengrocer, without the awning-used mainly for special paintings) Colours Blue, red, green, silver lettering. Signed Hazle. Painter Hazle 1997. General Label. Not crazed. Good.

20. BAKERY/COFFEE, CANTERBURY. Painted as DI GIORNO PIZZA PLACE. 'It's not delivery, it's Di Giorno'. Painted for Kraft Foods. Green, red. Signed Hazle. Painter Chris McAlister. No label. Not crazed. Good.

21. STRAIGHT AWNING PAINTED AS TOMBSTONE PIZZA, 'What do you want on your Tombstone?' For Kraft Foods. Colours Orange and Greens. Signed Hazle. Painter Lisa Coulson and Chris McAlister. No label. Not Crazed. Good.

22. STRAIGHT AWNING PAINTED AS 7-ELEVEN FOR THEIR 10TH ANNIVERSARY IN UK. Prototype. Hand painted orange, red, green. Signed Hazle. No label. Not crazed. Good.

28. CHEMIST Painted as VERA BRADLEY -painted for USA designer soft bags/clothes/furnishings. Colours Pink, white, green. Signed Hazle. Painter Hazle. No label. Not crazed. Good.

29. CORNER SHOP (Colchester) painted as POST OFFICE Blue, red and cream with Post Box. Painted for Off-the- Page selling by large company with a collection called 'Down Memory Lane'. Decal on reverse says limited to 9,500. Approximately 200 were issued. Signed Hazle. Painter Hazle 1997. Decal label. Not crazed. Good.

36. SMALL SHOP painted as THE LAMPLIGHTER. Painted as Limited Painting of 8. This is number 7 to be auctioned for charity in memory of Anne and Philip Hastings who collected No. 7's. This ceramic was retired several years ago, but when clearing out to move the workshop we found just fifteen pieces of bisque. Signed Hazle. Painter Iona Driver 2004. L.E. label and certificate. Not crazed. Good.

37. SMALL SHOP painted as FRANCIS WALTERS LTD. Undertakers. Painted as Limited Painting of 7. This is number 7 to be auctioned for charity in memory of Anne and Philip Hastings who collected No. 7's. This ceramic was retired several years ago, but when clearing out to move the workshop we found just fifteen pieces of bisque (the remainder painted as 'The Lamplighter'. Signed Hazle.
