Auction at the Rockefeller Plaza, New York on the 20th December
includes a 1964 Gibson SG Standard guitar owned by the Beatle
George Harrison. It was played by George Harrison from 1966
through 1969 during various Beatles appearances and recording
sessions which include the last official United Kingdom concert
at the NME Poll Winners Concert and during the Revolver recording
session.
It was also used by Harrison in two Beatles films used to promote
"Paperback Writer" and "Rain" in 1966 and
later played by John Lennon during the White Album sessions
in 1969. Also present is a hirty-nine page custom binder which
includes excellent documentation, featuring several reproduction
images of Harrison playing the guitar with The Beatles as well
as documentation from the book Beatles Gear: All the Fab Four's
Instruments, from Stage to Studio (Andy Babiuk) and two letters
verifying the guitar's authenticity. Together with additional
related documents of the guitars subsequent owner, Pete Ham
of Badfinger, to whom Harrison bestowed the guitar to in 1969.
In 2002, the guitar was loaned to the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame in Cleveland Ohio where it has been on display ever since.
Other
highlights include seven unseen reels of Super 8 mm film footage
from the making of Apocalypse Now (Zoetrope), shot by the Sound
Mixer for the film, Jack C. Jacobsen. The film was shot on location
in the Philippines in the late 1970s. The content of the film
is an extraordinary and unique behind the scenes view of the
actors, director, cameras and crew. Apocalypse Now was directed
by Francis Ford Coppola and stars Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen
and Robert Duvall. The film was nominated for eight Academy
Awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Robert
Duvall), Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction/Set
Decoration, and Best Film Editing, but the film won only two
awards: Best Cinematography (Vittorio Storaro) and Best Sound.There
are 2,050 feet of footage. The color is good, there is no sound.
Also
with an estimate $8,000-10,000 are Ocean's 11 signed documents
signed by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and others.
A group of contracts and agreements regarding the original production
of the hit film Ocean's 11, released in 1960. The first is a
twenty page typed contract dated September 1, 1959 regarding
the role of Danny Ocean, played by Frank Sinatra, whose salary
was $200,000 for his services; together with a one page typed
letter dated December 30, 1964 signed in blue ink by the actor.
Also present is a twenty page typed contract and an eight page
typed Exhibit "A" agreement dated June 15, 1959 regarding
the role of Sam Harmon, played by Dean Martin, signed twice
in blue ink by the actor; together with two additional typed
letters regarding his role, dated June 16, 1959 (six pages)
and July 15, 1959 (two pages), both are signed in blue ink by
Martin. There is a twenty-six page typed contract and a twelve
page typed Exhibit "A" agreement dated January 14,
1959 regarding the role of Josh Howard, played by Sammy Davis
Jr., signed in blue ink by the actor. Also included is a nine
page typed agreement dated June 13, 1958 and a five page typed
letter dated September 1, 1958 regarding the employment of Peter
Lawford, both documents are signed in blue ink by the actor;
a fourteen page typed agreement dated January 13, 1960 regarding
the role of Bergdorf, played by Richard Conte, signed in blue
ink by the actor; and a fourteen page typed agreement dated
January 26, 1960 regarding the role of Duke Santos, played by
Cesar Romero, signed in blue ink by the actor. The remaining
eight documents consist of contracts and agreements regarding
smaller roles in the film including Henry Silva, Akim Tamiroff
and Patrice Wymore, to name a few. Also present is a color facsimile
copy of a lobby card from the film. 8½ x 11 inches
