DC have announced the return of the WildStorm Universe.

Gen 13Without creators, there are no comics. Simple as that. And from Day One, WildStorm has always held this fundamental axiom close to heart. WildStorm has been and always will be creator fueled-relying on the diversity, talent and passion of the creators to get the attention of retailers and fans.

Without the creators, we are nothing.

But with the right creators on the right books, we are magic. Allow me to toot our collective horn for a second; trust me, there is a point to all this hyperbole. Some of the most interesting, cutting-edge comics have come out of WildStorm, and yet, one can drive oneself mad trying to divine which combination of talent and characters will ignite the curiosity and fanaticism of our readers for our new projects.

Sometimes this process is made easier. This fall is one of those times. We are storming back with the return of WETWORKS, DEATHBLOW, GEN13, AUTHORITY, STORMWATCH, THE MIDNIGHTER, and WILDCATS. With the incredible lineup of writers from the immensely creative Grant Morrison (writer on the upcoming WILDCATS and AUTHORITY titles) to the hyper-witty Gail Simone (GEN13) to the blunt, in-your-face Brian Azzarello (DEATHBLOW) to the wicked sensuality of Mike Carey (WETWORKS) to the impish, over-the-top Garth Ennis (THE MIDNIGHTER) to the fresh-to-comics-from-the-world-of-TV talent of Christos Gage (STORMWATCH), we have one of the best and most diverse lineups of writing talent in the industry for our upcoming WorldStorm event launching in September.

Now that's only half the story. Paired with these writers is an All-Star, All-Talent lineup of artists ranging from up and coming young turks like Talent Caldwell (GEN13) and Carlos D'Anda (DEATHBLOW) to fan-favorite veterans such as Gene Ha (THE AUTHORITY), Chris Sprouse (THE MIDNIGHTER), Doug Mahnke (STORMWATCH) and Whilce Portacio (WETWORKS)-not to mention cranky old artists like myself (WILDCATS).

Because we have always firmly believed in the power of creators to bring out the very best in our characters and because we had absolute faith we had the best creators for each title, we gave the creative teams carte blanche to scrap everything and start over from scratch. In fact, the CAPTAIN ATOM: ARMAGEDDON series was designed for the very purpose of setting up this overhaul. To our collective surprise, the creators wanted to pick up nearly all of the original concepts and characters as is, looking to reenergize them through sheer talent and enthusiasm, rather than renovation, to return them to renewed relevance.

Longtime fans will see old story threads returning, rare cameos from some of the oldest and most obscure WildStorm characters, while new fans will see a small, self-contained universe explode once again with excitement and fast-paced, daring storylines. So in many ways, everything will be the same, but all different, which in some ways, is the best of both worlds. And I for one, as both a creator and a fan, cannot wait for this world to be rocked once again.
