The Rugby Train auction on Saturday 23rd September starts with a very strong Meccano section with both pre and post-war pieces and includes some rare and hard to find examples.

The Rugby sale, which is held bi-monthly, regularly features some fine Meccano examples and within the sixty plus lots on offer in September there is an unusual early post-war (1949) red and green No.9a Outfit where most components appear unused. This is a rare set to find in this condition and one of the few we have offered in recent years. It was an expensive item to buy new, £60! hence the reason we don’t see many through auction, still in its original box, it has an estimate of £1100 - £1300.

There is a very good selection of factory built models which would have been bought by retailers for their shop window displays. Dating from 1950s through to 1990s they include a ‘Mississippi Steamer’, Ferris Wheel and Tower Bridge.

Other unusual pieces include two Meccano Elektron Sets dating from the 1930s and Pre-war Kemex Outfits including a rare, separately boxed Bunsen Burner.

The sale also includes a number of Limited Edition Wrenn Locomotives, a good selection of Hornby 0 gauge including lot 4568 No.2 Special Passenger Set consisting of 4-4-0 "COMPOUND" Loco and Tender LMS maroon No.1185, clockwork.

A Bassett-Lowke ‘Flying Scotsman’, always a popular model, which is estimated £500 - £600 and in the ‘further 0 gauge section’ is a Bing 4-2-2 Loco and Tender ‘Johnson Single’ Midland maroon No.650, 3-rail electric. The tender with running number 650 to tenders sides and to the rear "A.W. GAMAGES LTD" trademark.

In all just over eight hundred lots of high quality train and toy related items.
