Is it possible that people could be removing silver lines of pieces of second quality Moorcroft?

I only ask as I saw a Limited Edition piece of Moorcroft sell on ebay as a second a month or so ago and now I see the same piece with the same Limited Edition number advertised as a first quality with no silver line.

If people are doing this, is there any way to tell if this has been done to a piece as I would hate to buy something thinking I am buying a first quality only to find out it is a second with the mark removed

Any help would be greatly appreciated
