Gave myself away, LOL! : : : You're right that the secondary market seems to be regionally sensitive when it comes to antique shop availability of Lladró, as I hear that from other collectors, too. : : : So nice to have J. Fernandez joining in some actual conversation/discussion, isn't it? That makes three of us, LOL! Maybe it'll be the start of a trend! Like your idea about estate sales - which we don't seem to have a lot of up here in Northern New England, so that may also be a regional phenomenon... : : The closest thing to estate auctions I get is a bi-weekly Tepper auction I should go more often but I never do... : : Here I'm going to put in a plug for the Ebay Community Lladro Collectors Group of which I am a moderator (in case that wasn't clear). The issue I have with this Message board is the fact that it lists threads according to date entered and it clears "today's posts" at what seems to be midnight in the UK. I loose threads as if you don't check before that time you don't know if there have been any posts and you have to scroll down to search to see if there is anything new. On the ebay boards anything new makes the thread jump to the top and if you have not read it flags mark it as New or Unread. Very handy, but seems I'm the only person who checks in on a daily basis! : : Cheers, : : I'd like to relate something that just happened to me on ebay. I am usually very wary buying something expensive on eBay. I saw The Astronomy Lesson and the bidding was fast and furious, over 40 bids. I won it. The seller claimed the item was "mint" and showed a number of photos. When the item arrived, 3 weeks after the close of the auction, even when I sent a cashiers check, the wizard had a finger broken off. The seller claims she "dropped it off" at a UPS store in good condition and they must have broken it. It wasn't anywhere in the packaging. The figurine was totally encased in bubble wrap and taped. It was double boxed and both boxes were filled with styrofoam peanuts. Now I have to file a claim with UPS because the seller claims it wasn't broken. I'm out the $2600 I paid plus any money I might make should I decide to sell. What's it worth now? I can't even get it repaired because the broken finger isn't with the figurine. What's a person to do? Other Lladros I purchased were just what was described when they arrived.
