: The new issues for 2008 are out and what do you think?????

: Ok I have to admit that I'm partial to the new styles Lladro has been putting out in the past years. I love the silver and gold overpainting and the all white gloss figures in general. I very much appreciate the fact that they are producing more useful wares, the vases and bowls and bathroom fixtures and dinnerware but... They really need to reevaluate the price point on those. Something that comes straight out of a mold and has no decoration should not be in the same price range as something that requires multiple firings, repairing, painting etc. They really should open that up and sell the bathroom and kitchen items cheaply to get that stuff out there. I think it would do wonders for the brand in general and give them an up with the artistic and more intricate decorative items they are coming up with. I wish I could get a pair of those candelabra! Gilded of course.

Just received my new Privileges mag this week and I absolutely fell in love with the NaturoFantastic designs. I especially love that yummy gold/white bowl with the asymmetrical opening.

I loved the Ascot line for its elegant and clean lines until I realized that it had horse legs and heads stuck on them. Reminds me of those log hunting cabin lamps made of antlers .... yuck.

I've also become a big fan of the pieces that are combining matte with glazed. I think Lladro is taking a good direction in expanding selections to include the Re-Deco (gold and silver) as well as more "useful" lines like the fragrance diffusers and bath/kitchen products. It makes it more marketable to a wider audience, but really some of the "plain" pieces should be down-priced. The candle-filled porcelains are lovely, but once you use the candle, you can't refill it and are left with an empty votive. Does it really cost them all that much to buy wax to fill a votive? (Personally, I've decided not to burn the candle because I want to keep the look of the votive as it is. So I wound up buying a candle that I'll never burn. Lladro suckered me in on that one.) The fragrance diffuser is a much more usable product with the fragrance cubes - cubes are pricey, but the diffuser looks great even when not being used for its intended purpose, whereas the votives look bland and boring without the candle in it.

I can appreciate and understand Lladro charging $$$ for highly detailed, colored, labor-intensive porcelain, but I do agree that the plainer "working" bath and kitchen products should be less expensive.

Jennifer
