I googled "Peggy's Nao catalogue" and was able to do a search to find "Henpecked". She does look like my figurine and I was thrilled to have a name for her. I am wondering though, my figurine has a very smooth edge to the brim of her hat and the one in the catalogue seems to have a somewhat more ragged edge. Is this just the photograph? : I have scanned a picture of the base and will send it to you via your email as I do not know how to attach it to this discussion board. I tried several times and different angles to take a picture of the base but each time the light bounced and obliterated any distingushable picture. The scan is not great but will give you the general idea. It will be large in hopes that you can see detail. I saw the exact same mark on the Lladro website under their FAQ. If you scroll down under FAQ there are two rows of six marks, the one on the bottom of my figurine is the third mark from the left on the second row. : Do you know any more about her? The year she was first created? Identification of the scuptor? I am also curious about her value although I have no desire to part with her. My aunt knew about my "rural bones", my husband is a farmer, and we live on the Canadian Prairies so this little lady is quite welcome in our home. : On Peggy's most interesting website I read about Nao and Lladro. I do not see any Nao marks on my figurine. What do you think this means? What an interesting world you and Peggy must enjoy among these wonderful works of art. : Thanks again for any information you are able to share with me. I do realize you have much more important demands on your time. I do so thank you for taking the time to enrich my learning. : Kindest regards, ********************* Dear Fran, According to the Nao Historical catalog, your figure was sculpted by Vicente Martinez. They list it as "Playing W Rooster", they do not list an introduction date nor a retirement date. I just went through the Lladro catalog once more to no avail. In regards to your question about the rim of the hat, I'm sure it's just a function of the image. Also you will note on the Nao Historical Catalog image that the dress is decorated with dots while yours seems to have stripes. The color variation as far as seeming darker is most probably a function of the camera as the company seemed to go through phases where they tend to darken the colors in photography. Of interest in your image of the base is that the mark on yours is of the type used between 1969 and 1974 with the large airhole which I've only rarely seen on figures past that period. Stylistically, the figure looks like it would be later than that period, transitional between that 70's and the 80's look. You'll notice the flowers moulded as part of the rock base she is seated on. What had me look in the nao catalog are her fingers which are not articulated and my hunch was that it was either another company or possibly Nao. To give you an idea of retail value, figures in this style marked Nao generally sell on ebay in the $50-$100 range, with the Lladro brand they tend to bring over $100. For Insurance purposes, I'd hope Janet could chime in as her values are universally accepted. Thank you for the opportunity to research this a bit, it's always a lot of fun. Cheers,
