FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FLORIDA SHOW WELCOMES CERAMIC ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Date: January 29, 30 & 31, 2010

Venue: WEST PALM BEACH HILTON, 150 Australian Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL
FREE ADMISSION Saturday & Sunday.

Ceramic artists from South Africa, Spain and England will be flying to Florida in January as special guests of the Florida Antiques & Gifts Expo at the West Palm Beach Hilton from January 29th to 31st, 2010. Now in its 24th year, this ceramic extravaganza began as a Royal Doulton convention and it is still the oldest and biggest exhibition of Doulton antiques in the world. Collectors will discover unique pieces of Victorian art pottery from the Lambeth and Burslem studios, elusive figurines from the 1920s and 30s and rare character jugs presented by all the top Doulton dealers.

Over the years, the Florida show has expanded to include other collectible pottery and porcelain companies from around the world, notably Lladró from Spain, Moorcroft from England and now also Ardmore from South Africa. The Florida show is now the country’s premier event for collecting the best examples of ceramic art and antiques from the early 1800s to the present day.

Show promoter Ed Pascoe says: “This annual ceramic event allows collectors to meet with the artists, handle coveted antique vases and figurines, and share their collecting passions with others. You can’t do any of that on the internet! Let’s revive the romance of collecting. Leave your keyboards and screens for the weekend, come to the Florida show and connect with the creators, verify the quality of their work and put your trust in the expert dealers.”

Out of Africa
Horizons widen further this year at the Florida show to include Zulu artists from the Ardmore Pottery in South Africa. Founded 25 years ago by Fèe Halsted-Berning, Ardmore makes exuberant ceramic art, which is hand-made and hand-painted in KwaZulu Natal. Since 1985, Fèe has mentored hundreds of talented young local people and encouraged them to express themselves in clay. Their unique work has been exhibited in art galleries all over South Africa and Europe and last year an Ardmore masterpiece made a world record of $22,000 at auction.

American collectors are now being enchanted by Ardmore ceramic art, thanks to Pascoe and Company, the Florida Show promoters. The sale of each unique piece helps to uplift the local community in KwaZulu-Natal, which has been greatly afflicted by the AIDS pandemic. Florida residents can make a difference by coming to see the South African artists at work during the West Palm Beach weekend and purchasing a piece. Fèe will be accompanied by award-winning modeler Victor Shabalala and painter Happiness Sibisi on their first visit to the USA.

Spain’s City of Porcelain
The City of Porcelain near Valencia in Spain is home to Lladró and they will be sending one of their most talented sculptors to Florida to demonstrate the creative process behind a porcelain figurine. Marco Antonio Nogueròn has been a Lladró sculptor since 1993 and is best known for his romantic creations, including Bridge of Dreams, Moonlight Love, and Treasures of the Earth. What Nogueròn loves most about his work is the moment of conception and the search for the spirit of the sculpture. Because of this, his modeling demonstrations are particularly fascinating to watch and will be a highlight of the Florida show for all Lladró collectors.

British Art Pottery
Richard Dennis O.B.E is a champion of British Art Pottery and was honored in 2005 for his services to the Staffordshire pottery industry. Richard will be talking about his exciting life in the world of antiques and ceramic art and how he helped revive long established Stoke-on-Trent potteries, including Moorcroft. He and his wife, Sally Tuffin, the swinging sixties fashion designer, now have their own art pottery in Somerset, England and Richard will be previewing some of their latest designs at the Florida show.

Master modeler, Andrew Hull, from Stoke-on-Trent, England will be demonstrating the distinctive techniques he uses to create his humorous bird sculptures, inspired by the Victorian Martin Brothers. Andrew will also be leading master-classes during the West Palm Beach weekend for guests to try modeling with clay.

Collectors of Royal Doulton and other British art pottery will also enjoy the free weekend lecture program hosted by expert Louise Irvine from London, England.

ADMISSION IS FREE on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st January. There is a nominal charge of $10 for the opening night preview party on the evening of Friday 29th January.

Another highlight of the Florida show is the COLLECTORS DINNER PARTY on Saturday, 30th January – tickets $49.50 must be pre-booked with Pascoe and Company.
