I've just noticed some very interesting Coat Buttons in an Auction Catalogue in the UK. They are a set of 6 Coat buttons, each 1.5 inches wide. Each is an oil painting of a childs face, painted onto a British Penny (old currency) - the pennies date from 1865 to 1873. The pennies are mounted in Brass mounts. They are in an auction house in the UK called Andrew Hartley Fine Arts, in Ikley West Yorkshire and they go on-sale on the 12th April 2006. The buttons are lot number 374. URL for the Auction House is http://www.andrewhartleyfinearts.co.uk
Estimate is £60-90 (US $100-150) which would be a steal ! I've never seen any buttons like it and I expect they will go for more, but probably worth having a look at them anyway - look great in anyones collection.
