Back in 1966 Samson Products of Los Angeles, CA was responsible for most of the Batman items found in gumball machines all over the USA. Most collectors are familiar with their Batman flicker rings, vinyl collapsible rings, and vinyl suction-cup figures. However, there is one set of items that are almost lost to time. These are the Batman Charm Figures.
Each charm is a little over an inch in length, made of soft plastic (not vinyl), and came in a full figure of either Batman, Robin, Joker and Penguin. The back of each figure is flat, except for a small mound with a hole in the center were the figure could be attached to a ring. The back of each figure is also marked N.P.P. INC. 1966. They come in four different colors - blue, red, yellow, black. If you would like a pic of these charms write me at dthebatguy@aol.com and I'll send you one.
In February of 2007 I was lucky enough to meet a man who's father had a vending route in the 1960's and 1970's, and fortunately his dad saved a few of each item he sold as samples. There amongst a mountain of toys I found a few sets of the Batman gumball charms - in mint condition - having never been in a gumball machine or every played with. So far I have not been able to find a single Batman collector who owns a set of these figures - so they may very well be one of the rarest Batman collectibles around.
I am looking to trade a set of these Batman Charm Figures for Batman Figures made by Multiple Toymakers in 1967. Any questions please feel free to write me at the address above - I will answer all questions.
Thanks,
Don
