Batman Collectibles & Fugurines Message Board Posted by Collectibles Shop on January 02, 2007 at 23:44:39: In Reply to: No. 1 Batman Comic 1939 posted by Christine on January 02, 2007 at 22:09:42: Hi, Batman #1, as opposed to Detective Comics #27, wasn't made until Spring of 1940, so there shouldn't be any reprints of it with a 1939 cover date, unless someone's trying to pull a scam. A pic of what you saw would help. Does it have all the same cover art as a real #1 otherwise? Was it in a store, or online? Detective Comics #27, 1st app. of Batman, was cover dated May 1939, but they didn't put the YEAR on the BATMAN series for quite a while. There's been a number of reprints of both, but they usually are very close to the original covers, but with minor art differences so people can tell it's not an original without looking inside. If you could see inside the first page and look at the publishing info, that would tell you more. you can view all the Batman covers of the original series they have up at Grand Comic Book Database/a.k.a Comics.org, starting on this page, and see if the one you saw matches one there: http://www.comics.org/covers.lasso?SeriesID=141 Otherwise we'll need a pic or more info. -Collectibles Shop : I saw a No.1 Batman Comic that had an issue date of 1939 on the cover. Does anyone know of any reprints of issue No.1 made with the year 1939 on the cover? The images I've seen of No.1 just say "Spring Issue", and it is not the Detective Comic No. 27 May 1939 comic. Just wondering where this came from, and when it was printed. Any info would be great. Thanks!
